The Demands of Over-the-Road Duty¶
Long-haul trucks place three specific demands on batteries:
- High cranking current — large diesel engines need 850–1100+ CCA
- Constant vibration — road vibration damages plates over time
- Extended runtime — auxiliary loads (sleeper cab, telematics, refrigeration) may run while the engine is off

Fleet Best Practices¶
- Standardize on one or two group sizes and CCA ratings
- Test proactively — load-test at least annually, before winter
- Track age — replace at 3–5 years or when load-test fails
- Match technology to duty — flooded for standard, AGM for demanding
